📋
Already have an offer? Bring it. We’ll make you a competitive offer.
Bring your CarMax, Carvana or dealer offer with the vehicle. We’ll review it, inspect the actual car and make you a competitive CarDrop offer based on the vehicle itself.
What to bring
The written or digital offer you received.
The actual vehicle for an in-person appraisal, or request Mobile if appropriate.
Current mileage and any relevant condition information.
Payoff information if the vehicle is financed and you already have it.
What CarDrop will do
Review the competing offer.
Look at the actual vehicle and its condition.
Consider equipment, history and current market context.
Make you a competitive CarDrop offer based on the vehicle, its condition, equipment and current market.
Why an in-person look can matter
An online number may not capture every detail about options, condition or the actual vehicle in front of us. A real appraisal gives our buyer more context before making a decision.
If you still owe money
The competing offer and your loan payoff are separate numbers. If you decide to sell, the current lender payoff becomes part of the transaction just like it would with any other buyer.
Best starting point: Bring the offer or mention it in your appraisal request. CarDrop will make you a competitive offer based on the actual vehicle, and there is no obligation to sell.
💳
Still have a loan? We’ll make the payoff process easy to follow.
A loan usually means there is a lien on the vehicle, but you do not need to solve that before getting an appraisal. We’ll help you understand the payoff, equity and title-release steps in plain language.
What happens first
CarDrop appraises the vehicle based on the vehicle itself—not just the payoff amount.
If you want to sell, the current lender payoff becomes part of the transaction.
Your offer and the lender payoff are compared before paperwork is completed.
Helpful information to have
The lender or finance-company name.
A recent payoff quote if you already have one.
Your registration and title if you physically have it.
Photo ID and the names shown on the vehicle ownership documents.
If you have positive equity
If the CarDrop offer is higher than the payoff, the lien is satisfied first and the remaining equity is handled as part of the completed sale.
What can vary
Lenders differ on payoff expiration dates, electronic versus paper titles, release timing and the way dealer payoffs must be handled. Our team can walk through the lender-specific steps with you.
Good to know: Do not send banking passwords or sensitive login credentials through the appraisal form. We only need enough information to start the conversation.
↕️
Negative equity is a math problem. We’ll make the next step clear.
If the payoff is higher than the vehicle offer, the difference simply has to be resolved so the lender can be paid in full and the lien can be released. We’ll show you the numbers and explain the easiest path forward.
In this example, the $2,500 difference would need to be resolved as part of completing the sale.
What CarDrop looks at
The vehicle’s actual appraisal value.
Your lender’s current payoff.
The amount, if any, between those two numbers.
We’ll make the difference clear
Our team will tell you the exact amount that needs to be resolved before the lien can be satisfied. CarDrop accepts cash, cashier’s check, money order, or Zelle for the difference when applicable.
You do not need to know the number yet
If you are not sure whether you have negative equity, start with the appraisal. Once there is an offer and a current payoff, the situation becomes much clearer.
Why the payoff matters
Your account balance and your dealer payoff are not always identical. A current payoff from the lender is the number that matters when the transaction is being completed.
Best starting point: Get the vehicle appraised first. There is no need to guess at the equity position before you know the actual CarDrop offer.
📄
Lease rules can be complicated. We’ll help you understand what applies.
The leasing company owns the vehicle, and its rules determine whether a third-party dealer can buy it directly. We’ll help you identify the relevant payoff and buyout rules before you waste time guessing.
What to check
The name of the leasing company.
Whether a third-party dealer buyout is currently allowed.
The dealer payoff amount, if the lessor provides one.
Your lease maturity date and current mileage.
Customer buyout vs. dealer payoff
The amount shown to you as the lessee may not be the same amount quoted to a dealer. CarDrop needs the payoff that applies to the actual transaction.
If a third-party buyout is allowed
CarDrop can review the vehicle, the applicable payoff and the required lessor process before you decide whether to move forward.
If it is not allowed
You may need to work directly with the leasing company or use another permitted path before the vehicle can be sold to a third party. We can still help you understand where the obstacle is.
Important: Lease rules are controlled by the lessor. CarDrop can review the situation, but we cannot override a leasing company’s current buyout policy.
🔧
Damage can make selling feel harder than it is. We’ll help you sort out what matters.
CarDrop appraises the vehicle in its current condition. Tell us what you know, add photos if helpful, and we’ll make the appraisal path clear without assuming you need to repair everything first.
Tell us about
Check-engine, ABS, airbag or other warning lights.
Mechanical problems, noises, leaks or drivability concerns.
Accident damage or previous repairs.
Paintwork, dents, scratches, broken glass or interior damage.
Missing keys, equipment or other known issues.
Photos are especially useful
The appraisal form allows optional photos. Clear images of the overall vehicle plus close-ups of visible damage can give the team better context before the in-person or mobile appraisal.
Do you need to repair it first?
Not necessarily. A repair can cost more than the value it adds. Let us see the vehicle as it sits before assuming you need to spend money to make it sellable.
If the vehicle is not safe to drive
Do not drive an unsafe vehicle just to reach a location. A mobile appraisal may be the more sensible starting point, depending on the vehicle and where it is located.
Best practice: Add the warning light, mechanical issue or visible damage to the notes in your appraisal request. Surprises slow down an appraisal; clear information speeds it up.
🏠
Getting the car to us can be difficult. The appraisal doesn’t have to be.
CarDrop Mobile is designed to make that part easy. Tell us where the vehicle is and we’ll help coordinate the most practical next step at home, work or another location within the service area.
What you tell us
The vehicle or VIN.
Mileage and general condition.
Your city or area.
Whether the preferred setting is home, work or another location.
Anything unusual about access, condition or drivability.
What happens next
A CarDrop team member reviews the request and coordinates the appraisal details. Availability can depend on the location, timing and vehicle.
Same appraisal conversation
The goal is still the same: inspect the actual vehicle, understand its condition and give you a clear next step without forcing you into a dealership-style process.
If you decide to sell
Paperwork, payoff questions and vehicle pickup can be discussed with the team based on the specific transaction and location.
Good fit for: busy schedules, vehicles that are difficult to bring in, work-site vehicles, or sellers who simply prefer the appraisal to come to them.
Recent customers mention the same things again and again: quick appraisals, knowledgeable people, fair offers, and a process that feels simple from start to finish.
“Absolutely the only place I would go to sell your car. After dealing with the wait and hassle of CarMax, these guys offered me more…”
